Guide to posting photos on Social Media

We have a treasure trove of photos from our activities we can use to gain followers and brighten the world with smiles all around the world. Most have never been posted anywhere, ever. Please help them reach as many people as possible.

Repeat time:

As often as you want/can but paying attention to the channels recommended frequency guidelines

Quality

You can post as often as you want although most channels shouldn’t be flooded as that’s seen as spam by users and algorithms. I think Instagram has no limit as long as the text is different for each to avoid the system marking them low effort.

Text underneath is good but not essential if the image speaks for itself.

Channels

General:

Individual:
These accounts are for personalities and public figures who are part of the story of our Movement and can be grown and leveraged to spread awareness of our community, mission and individual projects. Each account has their own personality characteristics which should be reflected in posts.

Directing People to PHM

It would be good to include a watermark linking back to publichappinessmovement.com. If someone wants to automate that and add them to all our images reach out to @AndyatFocallocal as that would be a great time saver.

If there is a global event coming up it would be good to focus on that events activity specifically to help build a buzz

Avoiding Repeat Posting

If you are doing this task casually and occasionally then don’t worry about repeat images, its not really an issue. If you are doing this task often then please request access to edit the file you are taking images from and change the name of each photos after posting it so others can see if it’s been posted before and when it was last posted; using this format:

[year-month posted] _ [activity name] _ [original date]

For example:

873276983043980329807230980323.png

becomes

2021-11_TakeASmile_2014-December

Hastags

Also use an online hashtag finder where you can enter a few words you think are fitting with the photo like ‘hug’ and see the best related hashtags to include.
